Personal Care
What is Personal Care?
Any care that is of a personal nature constitutes personal care. You or your loved one may need assistance with any number of tasks that are personal in nature, for example bathing, showering, applying creams and lotions, dressing and toileting - as well as with continence management and general housekeeping.
It is a service in which our clients are supported and supervised with daily personal living tasks, personal hygiene, and toileting, as well as dressing and keeping our client’s appearance at a high level.
Personal care can include a wide range of services, but is not limited to the following:
- Applying lotions and creams as required
- Changing continence pads, along with cleaning intimate areas
- Dressing and getting ready for bed
- Foot care
- Putting on make-up and taking care of your hair
- Shaving
- Support moving position in bed, to stretch and prevent bed sores
- Taking a bath or shower, including the use of a bed-bath
- Taking care of your oral health
- Toilet assistance, including use of a commode or bedpan

Our client’s care plan will include details about likes, dislikes, hygiene, and beauty products they want to use, and what - or who - will make them feel most comfortable so that we can get to know our client’s better as a people. As part of our detailed support plan, there is always a description of certain tasks, such as shaving and diabetic foot care, which will always be provided caregivers with specific instructions.
It is our job to provide personal care to every client in a way that is discreet, caring, and respectful of their dignity and privacy. Our highly trained staff learns how important it is to provide support at every stage of life to always preserve our client’s dignity and independence.
Although personal care companions are trained to provide all aspects of personal care, our client’s may prefer to do some things on your own. The most important thing that a good caregiver will do for you is to give our client’s space and encourage independence whenever possible.
What are the benefits of Personal Care for your loved one?
Caring for a loved one often goes far beyond just helping with daily chores in many instances. If you give us the responsibility for caring for you or your loved one, you can rest assured that he or she will receive high-quality care from professionals who have experience setting up care plans, setting goals, assessing the needs of their clients, and being prepared for emergency situations.
In terms of a person's mental and emotional well-being, it is much more beneficial to allow them to care for themselves at home instead of having to go to a facility where strangers are present. Having someone look after you can be beneficial to your emotional well-being because moving seniors from the places where they feel comfortable and at ease can be stressful and disheartening. It has been shown that seniors' well-being has been improved by being surrounded by precious memories in the form of photos, artwork, and family heirlooms in their own home.
For our clients to maintain a greater level of independence, caregivers assist them in various ways. Providing clients with personal care services can allow them to make choices, provide them with assistance with physical mobility, and allow them to heal and live in the place they call home. In many households, pets are part of the family, home care services serve the purpose of maintaining independence by enabling people to keep their animal companions.
Taking care of a family member is a very time-consuming task. Families looking to enjoy quality time with their loved ones can do so by using the services of a personal care provider. Family members and friends do not have to spend all their visit time taking care of loved ones. Instead, they can spend quality time socializing with their loved ones while personal needs are provided by our personal care companions. The availability of caregivers in case of emergencies or medical conditions also improves the social time of the clients since their physical well-being is being maintained. A personal care companion reduces stress and burden on everyone involved, allowing social events to be a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved, allowing social time to be more enjoyable.
With the help of our personal care companions, we can create the right care plan that will satisfy and fulfill our clients' personal wishes and needs. It is possible to tailor all aspects of caregiving using the services of home care providers so that the care is tailored to meet the individual's needs. This personal touch makes the care even more unique and gives the clients a greater sense of independence.
Do You Need Personal Care for a Loved One?
Physical and/or mental changes usually manifest themselves in ways that reflect a shift in personal appearance and household cleanliness. If an elder is unable or unwilling to complete familiar tasks without assistance, even the slightest behavioral changes may suggest that he or she is unable or unwilling to do so. You might have noticed that their once neat appearance is slipping away now, or that their dress and hair are untidy, or that the mail is piling up. Some other signs of a changing lifestyle include inadequate fresh food in the home, signs of weight loss, forgetting to take medications, and unexplained bruises that usually point to a change in mobility.
A significant deviation from the established personal hygiene routine is often one of the first signs that are noticed by family members. Seniors may not bathe as frequently as they did when they were younger, but if they smell strongly of urine or body odor, or refuse to change out of dirty clothes, it is an indication that they need to bathe. When grooming habits and personal grooming drop significantly, it is a clear sign that the senior is having difficulties physically and/or mentally to meet his or her own needs.
